The Long Crossing (CD)
On June 1, 2013 I was on tour in Traverse City, Michigan when I met the most beautiful girl I’d ever laid eyes on. Over the next 18 months we talked every day long distance and though I tried everything I knew to win her heart, ultimately she decided against me and Tennessee. Her leaving left me a hollow shell of a person and the healing process, I’m almost ashamed to say, took me years. During that time I did a lot of writing and some time later noticed a series of songs in a notebook that told a story of a man falling in love, wrestling with a fading love, heartbreak and then the healing. I picked a handful of those songs and included them on this EP.
Traverse City earned its name from 18th-century French voyagers calling it la grande traverse, which translates to “the long crossing,” which this has certainly been for me.
